I’ve lived in Blofield since 1998 when my work with the Inland Revenue brought me to Norwich. We were looking for a home with a garden, in a village, close to Norwich, within the catchment areas of good schools, and with easy access to the A47, A11 and the London train; Blofield ticked all the boxes and we were very pleased to move here.
After retiring in 2011 I joined the Parish Council in response to an advert looking to fill vacancies and I’ve been the chairman for the last 18 months.
Planning issues have dominated the agenda for most of the time; we have an opportunity to comment on applications and we try to do so from the perspective of what is best for the parish – but we don’t make the decisions.
We now have a Neighbourhood Plan in place and that will help the council when it comments on proposed developments and as it plans how to improve the facilities within the parish.
Being involved can be frustrating but it is rewarding.
