PUBLIC INFORMATION: Recycling centres over Christmas – opening times and a reminder of what you can take

Norfolk’s recycling centres will be running normal opening hours over the festive period apart from Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, when they will be closed.

For full information on opening hours, the wide range of items that can be taken to recycling centres for FREE, and details on the nine reuse shops – visit

Greetings cards, Christmas trees, unwanted or broken electrical items including Christmas lights, and excess cardboard and other materials can all be recycled at any of Norfolk’s 20 recycling centres.

Wrapping paper can also be taken to the recycling centre or put in the kerbside recycling bin. Just remember to try the Scrunch Test – screw up wrapping paper before getting rid of it and if the wrapping stays scrunched it can be recycled, but if it bounces back, it can’t be recycled and needs to go in the rubbish bin. And don’t forget that paper with lots of sticky tape and glitter on can’t be recycled and needs to go in the rubbish bin.

To make a visit to the recycling centre quicker and easier people are encouraged to sort their items such as paper, electricals, and garden waste before they arrive at site. Recycling centre staff will be on hand to help people to find the right place to put their waste.
